In 1993, Patrick Merchant founded Internet Resource Developers, a consulting agency focusing on providing Internet informational resources to the business community. In 1994 Pat conducted Internet seminars at Vassar College, introducing attendees of the A.A.G. Middle States Division and New York Geographic Alliance to the power of the Internet. As early as 1990 he realized the potential of a “one stop” global warehouse of information. | ![]() |

Early clients, including the Marketing Research Corporation of America, were among the first companies to get on “the information super highway.” When IRD created MCA’s first website in 1995, there were still only a few thousand corporate web sites on the Internet. Today, there are more than 3,649,000 web sites globally. |

1996, in conjunction with the Marketing Corporation of America, IRD created

May 1996 also
saw the birth of “Hugo Gernsback’s Science Fiction E-zine.” As editor, publisher,
web designer and programmer, Pat was able to fulfill his vision of preserving
the works of the “Father of Science Fiction.” Available to anyone with a
web browser, the publication became an overnight success. In 1998 he was
invited to speak at the World Science Fiction Convention IRD’s new online publication, was picked up by “NewsBytes” wire service and subsequently was featured in USA Today and on “Nightline,” as one of the top ten visited web site’s by AOL users. |
